Energizing Engineering Leadership
A former Canadian astronaut, proud alumnus and the University of Calgary’s 13th Chancellor, Dr. Thirsk is a leader in promoting research and education. He inspires young minds to think about the possibilities education brings both on Earth, and above it.
A bold vision for the future requires thoughtful planning. Our leadership team has developed a strategy for each aspect of our goal to help take us forward to 2020.
Enhanced supports are being put in place to better help students with questions about their courses or who need help with their studies. New teaching models are being adapted to ensure classes are focused on student-learning needs. And new leadership programs are being created to offer learning experiences for our students to prepare them to succeed beyond the classroom.
Research plans are being written to help identify high impact research projects, while also aligning with the University of Calgary’s six strategic research themes to ensure Schulich investigators help propel university-wide research to new heights.
A diversity strategic plan is being finalized to identify methods to encourage people with a variety of backgrounds, genders, interests and talents to feel welcome and included.
The Schulich School is also examining its recruitment practices to better include the skills and talents of applicants, and supporting faculty and staff as they demonstrate to future engineers the exciting careers available to them.
We are committed, at every level, to the success of our students, to enrich diversity within the school and the engineering profession, and to combine our strengths to produce research that makes a difference. We will go forward energized, knowing we are making a difference in the lives around us, answering the call to serve humanity.
