Although born in Cape Town, South Africa, Dr. Kallos is a native to Calgary. He graduated with his PhD in 1999 from the University of Calgary and he is currently working in the area of biochemical and biomedical engineering.
He is the Associate Director of the Pharmaceutical Production Research Facility (PPRF), where he collaborates with Dr. Leo Behie and Dr. Arin Sen. Dr. Kallos is working on projects to generate clinically relevant quantities of embryonic stem cells and their derivatives, including bone and cartilage. He has also been heavily involved in the graduate and undergraduate Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Calgary.
