We are strongly committed to undergraduate and graduate education. A number of faculty members in the department have won various teaching excellence awards such as the CCPE Medal of Distinction in Engineering Education (Canada-wide), the APEGGA Excellence in Education Award (province-wide), the University of Calgary Students' Union Teaching Excellence Awards (university-wide), and faculty and department teaching excellence awards.
The department is internationally recognized for its research in areas such as biomedical, chemical processing, energy, environment, and advanced materials. The department attracts over $15 million per year in research funding. Our faculty members are regarded as leaders in their fields and several professors have won major national and international research awards. The department has many partnerships with industry and international education programs.
The City of Calgary, which hosted the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, is the engineering capital of Canada and is avibrant and exciting city. The Rocky Mountains, includingBanff National Park, Kananaskis Provincial Park and the Lake Louise, are very close and offer a wide variety of recreational activities in summer and winter.
