Dr. Caterina Valeo is an Professor in Civil Engineering. She received a BSc in Physics from the University of Toronto in 1990; a BASc in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1992, a MEng (Thesis) Degree in Civil Engineering from McMaster University in 1994 and a PhD in Civil Engineering from McMaster University in 1998. Her Masters work focused on pollution dispersion models in water bodies and her PhD focused on the hydrology of urbanizing catchments. She worked as an Assistant Professor from 1998 - 2000 in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba; joined the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary in the summer of 2000, and just recently joined Civil Engineering also at the University of Calgary in the summer of 2007.

Dr. Valeo's research areas include the impacts of forest fires on climate change analysis; the influence of hydrological processes on forest regeneration; modelling water resources in remote regions of the Canadian boreal forest, assessing the impacts of climate change and urbanization on Alberta's water supply; and developing large scale estimates of evapotranspiration and vegetation health with the use of remote sensing.

Dr. Valeo's research supporters and collaborators have included NSERC, the Alberta Ingenuity Fund, the Canadian Climate Change Action Fund, Alberta Innovation and Science, Alberta Environment, the City of Calgary, Manitoba Hydro and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

She has been a Professional Engineer and member of APEGGA since 2000.
