Scholarships, Awards, & other Academic Honours

Dr. El-Hacha joined the department in 2004. Prior to his appointment, he was a Research Associate at North Carolina State University (2001-2003) and an NSERC Postdoctoral fellow at the Royal Military College of Canada (2000-2001).

Research Interests

Dr. El-Hacha's research interests include:

  • Blast Mitigation and Repair using Innovative Materials
  • Assessment, repair and rehabilitation of concrete and steel structures.
  • Strengthening concrete and steel structures using externally prestressed and nonprestressed fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets and strips
  • Strengthening concrete structures using prestressed FRP cables, prestressed and nonprestressed near-surface-mounted FRP strips and bars.
  • FRP hybrid-concrete composites girders for bridge construction
  • Using high strength materials (steel, concrete and FRP) in new construction
  • Using corrosion Inhibitors as surface treatment onto concrete structures.
