First prize for the First ISIS Canada Student Bridge Design Competition awarded by the Canadian Network of Centres of Excellence on Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures (ISIS Canada) at the 7th Annual Conference, May 1, 2002, Winnipeg, Canada. The team consisted of four graduate students from Queen's University (Luke Bisby, Brea Williams, Dorian Tung, and John Ford) and myself. The competition comprised of designing a short covered pedestrian bridge with fibre-reinforced polymers. The bridge is part of an extension to the Faculty of Engineering on the campus of the Université de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Canada. The bridge was constructed started in January 2003.

Nominated by Queen's University, among the best graduates, as a candidate for the 2001 NSERC Doctoral Prize in the Engineering and Computer Science category. The NSERC Doctoral Prize recognizes excellence in student research in the natural sciences and engineering.

"Honorable Mention" for the Construction and Building Material Award for best paper on the Use of Materials awarded by Elsevier Science, Oxford, UK, for the paper by El-Hacha, R., Green, M.F., and Wight, R.G., "Concrete Beams Post-Strengthened with Prestressed CFRP Sheets" published and presented at the Structural Faults + Repair 01 the 9th International Conference and Exhibition on Extending the Life of Bridges, Civil + Building Structures, July 4-6, 2001, London, England.

Awarded the "Division Three Outstanding Thesis" Prize by the School of Graduate Studies at Queen's University for the best thesis in engineering, Spring 2001.

Nominated for the "Governor General's Academic Gold Medal Award" for Spring 2001 convocation at Queen's University. Selected amongst all the Masters and Doctoral students from all engineering departments.
