Combined Engineering and Business Degree

The only program of its kind in Western Canada, the Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce combined degree blends technical expertise with strategic thinking to give you a truly unique education. What is the program?

The Schulich School of Engineering and Haskayne School of Business are now offering a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce combined degree. The new program is designed to prepare graduates for a wide range of careers in engineering, business, management and all areas in between.

Students will be able to:

  • take a mixture of engineering, science, arts and business courses
  • access student and career services from both the Schulich School of Engineering and Haskayne School of Business
  • apply for an optional 12 to 16 month paid internship with the Engineering Career Centre
  • earn two degrees.

The number of students accepted into this exclusive program is limited. Admission is highly competitive.

Preparing graduates for the workplace

Graduates are qualified to pursue multiple exciting career pathways.

  • They are uniquely positioned to tackle entrepreneurial opportunities in an evolving technology-based global economy.
  • Their mixture of technical and business skills makes them better prepared to advance their careers into management roles.
  • With both engineering and business degrees, our graduates will be poised to make a difference in the world as leaders.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce

Students enrolled in the combined degree program will be able to take the following engineering majors at the Schulich School of Engineering.

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Geomatics Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering

Students enrolled in the combined degree program will be able to take the following Bachelor of Commerce concentrations at the Haskayne School of Business.

  • Business Technology Management
  • Energy Management
  • Entrepreneurship & Innovation

  • General
  • Human Resources and Organizational Dynamics
  • International Business
  • Marketing

Students who pursue combined engineering and business degrees will not be able to complete an engineering minor or specialization – or an honours in commerce – within the five years of the program.

What are admissions requirements?

All applicants must present grades for the following five high-school subjects (or their equivalents):

  • ELA 30-1
  • Chemistry 30
  • Physics 30
  • Math 30 – 1
  • Math 31 (Calculus)

How do I apply?

Applications open Oct. 1, 2017 for entrance into the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary.

Enter the common-core first year program with other engineering students and then apply for the B.Sc (Eng) and BComm program in winter of your first year when other students are applying for their major.
