Welcome to Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT

The mechanical engineering program follows a prescribed program of courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, materials science, and design. Students may choose a program specific minor in mechatronics or petroleum engineering or a specialization in a biomedical engineering or energy and environment.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
The manufacturing program follows the mechanical program until the third year when specialized courses including robotics and automation, computer-aided design (CAD), and integrated manufacturing systems are introduced. Note: the department is no longer offering a degree in manufacturing engineering to newly admitted students; a minor will be available in the 2010/211 academic year.

MINORS AND SPECIALIZATIONS
Within engineering there are six program-specific minors, two interdisciplinary specializations, and two minors open to engineering students in any program. The Schulich School encourages well-rounded graduates, therefore all of its programs offer minors and joint degrees with all other faculties at the university.

APPLY TO A PROGRAM
Students enter first-year engineering at the Schulich School in a common program, and select their departmental program choice at the end of their first-year. To select a program, engineering students assign a rank to each of the eight possible program choices via the myUofC portal in April.

STUDENT LIFE AT SCHULICH
Student Teams

The mechanical and manufacturing departments of the University of Calgary have endorsed the idea of a Mini Baja Team for over a decade now. The purpose of creating a Mini Baja vehicle is to not only encourage innovative mechanical design but to participate at a competitive level.

The University of Calgary Formula SAE Design Team is made up of highly motivated undergraduate students from numerous faculties within the university. Students design and manufacture a single-seat, open-wheel style racecar for a potential customer - the weekend autocross enthusiast.

The University of Calgary Aero Design Team operates as part of Schulich AeroDesign, an undergraduate club for students who are interested in aerospace and aviation. It provides professional development, social events and opportunities to engage with industry professionals. The design team competes in the annual SAE Aero Design competition to design, build and fly a remotely controlled aircraft. There are many restrictions in place to increase the difficulty of competition and students are challenged to produce creative and innovative designs.
