Schulich School hosts one-day forum on educating future engineers and business leaders about workplace safety

Health and safety education is a crucial skill when it comes to making workplaces safer. Promoting health and safety education in Alberta engineering and business schools was the focus of the Alberta Minerva Learning Forum hosted by the Schulich School of Engineering on May 25.

The one-day event was organized by Minerva Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving business effectiveness and reducing workplace injuries and illnesses through better health and safety education.

“Engineering and business students need to have a good understanding of the importance of health and safety before they enter the workplace,” explains Dr. Anis Haque, Chair of the forum organizing committee and a faculty at the Schulich School of Engineering. “Minerva Canada is quite active with educational activities in Ontario and the University of Calgary is playing a major role in enhancing those activities here in Alberta.”

Participants included a mix of representatives from various industries, Alberta Employment and Immigration, the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board and all major colleges and universities in Alberta.
