They’re the people who make the Schulich School of Engineering a place of innovation, teaching excellence and world-class research. On Dec. 13, the school recognized the dedication of faculty and staff members as well as graduate students who excel as teaching assistants.

“The work of these individuals makes Schulich among the best engineering schools in Canada,” said Bill Rosehart, interim dean of the Schulich School of Engineering. “Their work inspires us and takes our school to the next level of excellence. I look forward to another successful year of great individual and team accomplishments.”

In recognition of the significant role staff members play in the day-to-day operations of the school, three new staff awards were introduced this year: the Excellence in Leadership Award, the Safety and Sustainability Award and the Excellence in Teaching and Research Award in support of the Academic Plan.

Norman Webster, principal at the Calgary office of Read Jones Christoffersen Consulting Engineers, received this year’s Distinguished Collaborator Award. Webster has supported the Department of Civil Engineering in a number of ways: funding graduate research in the Faculty of Engineering; training and mentoring internship students; developing new courses and reviewing the curriculum; providing scholarships  in Civil Engineering for over 30 years; supporting the Engineering Associates Program; and  sponsoring the Read Jones Christoffersen Civil Engineering Board Room, one of the most used meeting places in the school.
