Engineering Education Council
This council brings together three groups involved in the development of the engineers of tomorrow: the elementary and high school education professionals who shape and implement the K-12 school curriculum, university professors who plan and implement the university curriculum, and practicing professional engineers who hire the eventual graduates. This council meets annually to ensure there is ongoing dialogue within this important loop. Council membership includes leaders and decision-makers in the represented groups.
Note: The Engineering Education Council replaces the Tricouncil on Education. Tricouncil Archive

What's New in Engineering Research - breakfast for teachers
Science and math teachers in the Calgary and surrounding areas are invited to a breakfast panel to find out about the latest advances in emerging engineering areas, such as biomedical engineering, climate change, or clean energy. This event is hosted by the Engineering Associates Program at the Schulich School of Engineering and provides teachers with a chance to meet and mix with professional engineers.

Iron Science Teacher Dinner Reception
The most courageous and entertaining science teachers from across Canada descend on Calgary for the annual Iron Science challenge each year.

Calgary area science educators are invited to a special dinner reception the night before the show to meet the finalists, celebrate teaching excellence, and find out what's new in science and engineering education at the university.

This event is offered in conjunction with the Faculty of Science and Student Enrolment Services at the University of Calgary.

Imperial Oil Program in Inspiring Careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
The Schulich School of Engineering, in partnership with the Faculty of Education, operates a program sponsored by Imperial Oil to encourage young people to choose careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program has a particular focus on increasing the participation of young women in engineering. Project components include professional development for teachers, as well as programming for parents and school counselors, in selected schools. Other aspects include summer camps, mentoring and work experiences for young women in engineering.

Classroom visits
What does an engineer do? How can engineers make the world a better place? How do engineers tackle the issues that come up throughout the K-12 curriculum? Faculty members, postdoctoral fellows (newly minted PhDs) and students can visit your classroom. Classroom visits with Schulich School of Engineering experts are arranged through the Calgary Science Network.

Classroom workshops in May and June can also be arranged with Minds in Motion, the science and engineering summer camp program sponsored in part by the Schulich School of Engineering.

Science-in-a-Crate
The Schulich School of engineering is a proud sponsor of several Science-In-A-Crate resources provided by the Science Alberta Foundation. Trunk-sized crates come brimming with activities that follow a storyline, illustrate science concepts and link to real-world applications. The minds-on, hands-on activities engage many learning styles. All shipping costs are included in a $25 booking fee. There are dozens of science and engineering related crates including:

Crash Landing: Aeronautical Engineering
Wanted: Engineers for the Salazar Carnival
Journey to the Centre of the Reservoir

For more information or to book a crate, visit the Science Alberta Foundation.

Campus visits

Campus tours: Spring and summer campus tours are available, so you can find out first hand what it is like to be a university student. The 1.5 hour tour is led by a student ambassador and will take you by classrooms and laboratories, through our hallways, residences, athletic facilities, our mall-like Student Union centre, across campus and into faculty buildings. For more information or to book a tour, visit Campus Tours.

Engineering tours: Just interested in engineering? Tours for student groups, and prospective students with their families, who are interested in the Schulich School of Engineering can also be arranged. Contact Rob Deptford at deptford [at] ucalgary [dot] ca.

Campus events: Join us for a campus event to get a flavour of student life, and meet some of the professors and staff at the University of Calgary. Schulich School of Engineering warmly welcomes teachers, students and parents to its booth and facilities at any of these annual events:
