Each department in the Schulich School of Engineering houses extensive and unique research laboratories and facilities:

There are also several multidisciplinary collaborative research centres and less formalized collaborative research groups affiliated with Schulich.

Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education (CBRE)

The Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education (CBRE) is a unique multidisciplinary collaboration between the faculties of Engineering, Medicine, and Kinesiology. The University of Calgary has been engaged in biomedical engineering research for over 30 years, and has developed a strong reputation as a leader in numerous fields. Primary research themes include:

  • Neuro-engineering
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory engineering
  • Bone and joint engineering

Centre for Environmental Engineering Research and Education (CEERE)

The Centre for Environmental Engineering Research and Education (CEERE) is focused on the development and growth of multidisciplinary research and education programs in Environmental Engineering and Energy and Environment. The range of research focus areas within CEERE include:

  • Industrial and hazardous waste management technology
  • Water pollution assessment and control
  • Geo-environmental engineering
  • Air pollution assessment and control
  • Clean air and clean water technology

Pipeline Engineering Centre (PEC)

The Pipeline Engineering Centre leads the advancement of knowledge in pipeline engineering to meet the needs of the domestic and global pipeline industry through a broad multidisciplinary approach. The center is a leader in pipeline integrity, maintenance, and management; new pipeline technologies; and project management. Research areas include:

  • Multi-phase flow
  • Improvements in safety and environmental control
  • Integrity management
  • Hydrogen transmission
  • Carbon dioxide transmission
  • Efficiency in fluid and gas pipeline flow
  • New coatings synthesis
