Undergraduate Engineering Degree Programs: Current Students

ENGINEERING DEGREE PROGRAMS
The Schulich School's Bachelor of Science degree programs in eight areas of engineering are fully accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. Click on an image below to find out more about each program.

Accreditation means that graduates will be accepted as engineers in training in all 10 Canadian provinces and internationally (including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Hong Kong, and more).

First-Year Common Core
All first-year students take the same core program in mathematics, sciences, computing, communications, engineering principles, and design. This provides a foundation for their engineering training and exposes them to the variety of engineering disciplines from which they will choose a program for their second year.

Apply to an Engineering Program
All students who have completed first year and are in good academic standing are guaranteed a place in a program but all are not guaranteed a place in their first choice of program. If more students choose a particular program than there are spaces available, the decisions are made on the basis of academic performance.

MINORS, JOINT DEGREES AND SPECIALIZATIONS
Having applied to an engineering program, students may also pursue a minor or apply to enter a specialization. Within engineering there are six program-specific minors, two interdisciplinary specializations, and two minors open to engineering students in any program. The Schulich School encourages well-rounded graduates, therefore all of its programs offer minors and joint degrees with all other faculties at the university.

Biomedical Engineering Specialization
Biomedical engineers apply traditional principles and analysis to human health and medicine. Biomedical engineers design machines and instruments to see inside the body. They also help people recover from injury, grow cells and tissues for transplantation, design software and new materials for medical devices, and much more. Visit the Biomedical Engineering website
Energy and Environment Specialization
The energy and environment specialization provides education and training necessary for understanding, avoiding, minimizing, and solving industrial challenges that relate to the impact of energy use on the environment. It prepares undergraduates for careers in engineering that link energy and the environment through a holistic approach. Visit the Energy and Environment website

COMPLEMENTARY STUDIES
The Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE) requires that an accredited undergraduate engineering degree program must include a minimum of one half year of Complementary Studies which appropriately complement the technical content of the engineering curriculum.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM OPTIONS
Engineering in French and Latin
Learn the language used by writers and scientists in the third to sixth centuries through a pair of introductory Latin courses specifically designed for science and engineering students. Latin 205 and 207 introduce students to Latin through ancient, medieval and modern scientific texts. Students can use these courses towards their complementary study requirement; no prior knowledge of Latin is required. For more information about these courses, contact rbrennan [at] ucalgary [dot] ca.

Engineering Internship Program
The engineering internship program prepares students for a career that is creative, challenging, and highly rewarding. Students are encouraged to gain first-hand knowledge of industry needs by taking advantage of the award-winning internship program after their third year.

Study Abroad
Students looking for an international study experience may take courses at a university in another country through a study abroad or international exchange opportunity, or they may arrange an international work experience as part of the internship program.
