Activities
Dr. Lee's research is focused on multi-disciplinary design space in order to leverage the synergy towards the realization of smart and sustainable mechatronics systems. Industrial automation with mechatronic systems satisfying high performance with low cost based on the knowledge of dynamics, vibration, control, optimization and artificial intelligence is the main direction of her research. Current research topics she is interested in are Industrial robot manufacturing, human-machine interfaces, multi-axis active vibration absorbers, fault detection, cyber-physics systema and energy harvesting. Dr. Lee is currently hiring MSc and PhD students with a strong background in mechatronics, vibration, dynamics and control.
Biography
Dr. Jihyun Lee received her BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and her MSc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, USA. Prior to joining the University of Calgary, she worked for two-and-a-half years as a senior researcher in the Department of Ultra-precision Machines and Systems at the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (KIMM) in South Korea. She has worked as an assistant professor at the University of Calgary since February 2019. Projects she mainly fulfilled at KIMM were 'vibration reduction of machines using multiple TMD systems ($1 million granted by Doosan Machine Tools), 'virtual machining mechatronics platform,' 'industrial robot manipulator machining on a mobile platform' and 'laser tracker network development.' Based on this experience, Dr. Lee conducts her research on smart and sustainable mechatronic systems automation at the University of Calgary.
