Air pollution process and control
Dr. Du's research under this topic is focused on source apportionment of black carbon (BC) aerosols and characterization and formation mechanisms of key air pollutants in the urban areas.
Environmental monitoring technology and instrumentation
Dr. Du's research under this topic is around developing digital photography methods, optical remote sensing technologies, and integrated in-line apparatus for monitoring ambient air quality indices, pollutants concentrations, and determining source emissions.
Dr. Ke Du has more than 15 years of research experience pertaining to environmental monitoring and aerosol characterization. He earned his BEng, MSc and PhD at Tsinghua University, Peking University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, respectively.
Prior to becoming a professor at the University of Calgary, he worked as an air quality specialist at URS Corporation in the US and a research professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in China.
Dr. Du has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal papers, co-authored one ASTM method, and holds three patents pertaining to air quality measurement technologies and ambient particulate matter characterization.
Dr. Du is the editor for journal Aerosol and Air Quality Research (ISI impact factor: 2.6), and editorial board member for journals Atmospheric and Climate Sciences and Current Advances in Environmental Science. He is also a professional engineer, registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
