Research activities

My research areas of focus include development of intelligent algorithms and computational tools for information extraction, 3D mapping and modeling of real world environments using data acquired by different platforms with different sensors. Examples include airborne/spaceborne imaging using active sensors (e.g. LiDAR) and/or passive sensors (e.g. panchromatic camera), ground-based or vehicle-borne based sensing techniques (e.g. hand-held shooting, mobile mapping), and mobility data (e.g. GPS traces). 


Biography

Dr. Ruisheng Wang joined the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary as an Assistant Professor in 2012 and is currently an Associate Professor. Prior to that, he worked as an industrial researcher at the HERE maps (formerly NAVTEQ) in Chicago, USA since 2008. His primary research focus there was on mobile LiDAR data processing for next generation map making and navigation technology. Dr. Wang holds a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the McGill University, a MScE in geomatics engineering from the University of New Brunswick, and a BEng in photogrammetry and remote sensing from Wuhan University, respectively.
