  • Microbial fuel cells and microbial electrolysis cells for domestic and industrial wastewater treatment.
  • Bioelectrochemical treatment for removal of emerging contaminants, persistent organic contaminants, and toxic heavy metals.
  • Degradation pathways and byproduct formation in bioelectrochemical treatment.

Sustainable wastewater treatment

  • De-centralized low-energy treatment technologies.
  • Electrochemically enhanced wetlands for increased degradation of contaminants in cold climates.

Dr. Wendy Huang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. She received her BASc in Environmental Systems Engineering from the University of Regina, and MASc and PhD in Civil Engineering (Environmental) from McMaster University. She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at McMaster and Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr. Huang’s research focus is microbial electrochemistry for sustainable wastewater treatment and resource recovery.
