Engineering Class of 2023

5 quick questions

Initially, I chose to study engineering because I enjoy math and science. After a year of studying it, I realized I also like the creative aspects of it. Specifically, I like applying the concepts we learn in class to create things and problem solve.

When I was in high school, I didn’t know what area of study I wanted to pursue after graduation. I considered multiple programs and universities, but I was very indecisive. To overcome this, I spoke with many people from different professions such as nursing, biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering. After hearing their experiences, both in school and in the work force, I decided on engineering.

Ignore the stereotypes about engineering. While engineering was a predominantly male field in the past, more and more women are entering STEM fields. As well, despite popular beliefs, engineering is very group-oriented and requires lots of communication between peers or coworkers.

I enjoy learning about how the things around us work. I also find the open-ended questions that we are asked to be fun to reflect on because they require you to think outside the box.
