As an engineer, I hope to apply what we learn as students to find solutions to issues that continue to challenge our world.

As a student, the most challenging obstacle was in exploring what I wanted to pursue in the future. I explored my interests through extracurricular activities and volunteer experiences. Through this process, I understood that engineering can provide opportunities to explore and apply various topics in the real world.

As a female student in the Schulich School of Engineering, I think it is important to actively promote diversity through student opportunities by removing barriers that exist for underrepresented groups. Despite those barriers, I would encourage young women engineering students to not become limited and to use their strengths to bring about change.

Like the U-Connect program, there are many initiatives at Schulich School of Engineering that promote a welcoming culture of diversity and inclusivity. One example is the Diversity Advocacy Committee of the Engineering Students’ Society that represents the students at Schulich by advocating and bringing awareness to current world injustices and issues.

Engineering offers many opportunities, whether it be through course-based projects or clubs on campus, to interact and work with individuals of different backgrounds and interests. Building relationships with these individuals offers many changes to how I perceive the world!
