Shaping the Future of Engineering Education

Submitted by lavonneb on Sun, 03/30/2014 - 3:39pm

These are exciting times at the Schulich School of Engineering. We are in the midst of an ambitious campaign to update and expand our teaching and research spaces, and enhance our student programs.

Our goal is to raise $60 million through the Engineering Leaders campaign — a comprehensive fundraising initiative that will strengthen our position as one of the best engineering schools in North America.

Engineering Leaders campaign

The Schulich School of Engineering is always evolving to meet the needs of a new generation of engineering students. The Engineering Leaders Campaign is a bold initiative that is taking our engineering school into the future with expanded space, increased research opportunities and enhanced programs.

Since our school opened in 1965, we’ve made great use of our existing space and facilities. But the demand for engineers is growing and we need more space to welcome additional students. Engineering education is also changing, and we plan to change along with it by providing more student-focused programs that will inspire a new generation of engineering leaders.

Our goal is to raise $60 million and we’re well on our way. The current total is $55.9 million.

The money is being used to:

  • Create a new heart and hub for learning and research (This is well underway with the Schulich School of Engineering Expansion and Renovation Project.)
  • Enhance student-centred programs
  • Focus on leading research that sparks innovation
  • Increase enrolment by 10 percent
  • Hire additional faculty in areas of strategic research priorities

Give to the Engineering Leaders campaign

There are many ways you can support the Engineering Leaders campaign. Your support will be an investment in the future of engineering education and a benefit to our community.

We invite you to help the Schulich School of Engineering:

  • Increase the development of high-quality engineering graduates
  • Educate engineers who have interpersonal skills, workplace experience and international exposure
  • Enable research discoveries that give companies a competitive edge
  • Apply research that solves environmental and social challenges
  • Transfer research that opens doors to new business opportunities
  • Foster research programs that stimulate transformative change within industry and society
  • Create and train a knowledge-based workforce
  • Involve local, national and international organizations in one of the top engineering schools in North America

Your donations make a real impact

Here are just a few of the comments from students about why your support matters.

"I intend to become a donor myself once I get settled, and give back to the university to help other students fulfill their dreams, like I'm getting a chance to fulfill mine."

"A homeroom is the best place to study. At one point there were no less than one dozen junior bacon cheeseburger wrappers piled in a pyramid; the result of a two-day study session. Your support for this homeroom gives students a dedicated place to work and study. Thank you.”

"I greatly appreciate the funding I received to support my research in Engineering Biofilms in Porous Media. Being amongst the first to carry out such work in Canada provides the Schulich School of Engineering with a unique opportunity to train highly qualified students and researchers.”
