Biography
Dr. de Barros has several years of experience both in academia and in the industry, where he worked as a consultant in transportation planning and airport planning and engineering. He is also the former Director, Airport Infrastructure of the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency. He has several publications in aviation, airports and traffic safety, and is the winner of the 2004 ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering Best Paper Award (with Dr. Chan Wirasinghe).

Dr. de Barros, P.Eng. has an extensive experience in the industry having worked for five years in transportation engineering consulting firms, and is the former director, airport infrastructure of the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency, where he was responsible for regulation and oversight of airport standards, operations and safety. He also has a solid academic record in the field of transportation engineering, with several academic research projects and publications on transportation and aviation planning and safety. Both in academia and in the industry, he has modeled transportation systems including road, rail, port and airport systems using a variety of operations research techniques.
