Research that makes a difference in people's lives and the world drives what we do.
Engineering research touches everything. We are developing leading-edge tools and technologies to address challenges from the nanoscale to the global scale.
Research success stories
Developing tomorrow's pipelines
Developing tomorrow's pipelines
Dr. Ron Hugo, PhD, brings together industry, academia and government through the Pipeline Engineering Centre (PEC). PEC researchers are improving pipeline safety, security and efficiency. They also work with grad students to develop the pipeline engineers and researchers of tomorrow.
Pipeline leak detection and prevention
Pipeline leak detection and prevention
Dr. Frank Cheng, PhD, is detecting and preventing pipeline leaks. He advances research on pipeline life cycles, models that predict pipeline failure, and new coatings and corrosion inhibitors. This complements research integrating intelligent nano-sensors for pipeline leak detection and alerts.
Unique research facility
Unique research facility
Our unique soil-tank research facility measures a pipeline’s ability to withstand soil pressure from various directions as the ground shifts. It can show us which pipeline materials are most effective helps us know when to replace a section of pipeline before it reaches its breaking point.
