Certificate in Engineering Leadership

Graduate with a certificate. Complete all three levels and earn a certificate of recognition.

Tier 1: Foundations

For undergrad students in any year who are new to the program and first-year students taking ENGG 200 leadership seminars who opt into the certificate.*

Theme: Foundational Leadership. Learn self-awareness, leadership styles, time management, and effective communication and teamwork.

*Note: Make your attendance to the leadership seminars count towards the completion of Tier 1: Foundations. Email us at schulich.leadership@ucalgary.ca.

Tier 2: Development

Theme: Team Leadership. Learn about strategic networking, difficult conversations, leading a collaborative team, and conflict resolution.

Note: This tier is for students who have completed Tier 1: Foundations.

Tier 3: Excellence

Theme: Transformational Leadership. Learn about leading a team with empathy, negotiation, personal brand, presentation skills, and inclusive leadership.

Note: This tier is for students who have completed Tier 1: Foundations and Tier 2: Development.

Attend six workshops

Offered virtually, in-person, and online asynchronous.

Attend bonus workshops

Two bonus workshops are offered in the fall and two in the winter.

Complete two online term self-reflection/surveys

One in the fall and one in the winter.

Attend the leadership conference

Typically held on a Saturday in March.

Opportunity to re-join every year, and progress through all of the tiers.

Successful completion of a tier earns you a digital badge of recognition

Completing all 3 tiers earns you the Certificate of Completion.

Participate

Participate in a workshop and/or event on average once a month.

Each event/workshop is about 1.5 hours, and each topic is offered 2-3 different times to accommodate a variety of class schedules.

Schedule

Workshops are typically scheduled Monday to Thursday starting between 4:30 to 6 p.m. M.T.

Workshop delivery: In-person, virtual, and online asynchronous.

Flexibility

There are make-up assignments and bonus workshops available if you are unable to attend due to class conflicts.

Flexibility is built into the program in order to meet requirements.

Earn a Certificate of Recognition

Complete all three tiers and you'll graduate with a Certificate in Engineering Leadership that you can add to your resume and LinkedIn.

Engineering Leadership Conference
