Julian Mulia
BSc (Eng)’15, MEng'19
Julian co-founded NanoTess with the vision to avoid unnecessary suffering through nanotechnology innovation. During his time at NanoTess, he has established two nanotechnology laboratories including initial manufacturing. He has also co-raised $1.5-million in funding through an oversubscribed financing round and provincial, federal and military awards. Julian is a double graduate from the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary (Software and Chemical Engineering, MEng.). Julian has always been passionate about innovation and how it can positively impact the world. Prior to NanoTess, Julian worked as a management consultant, advising Fortune 500 C-Suite clients on strategy, operations, and establishing their innovation ecosystems and intrapreneurship practices. When working at Deloitte, he was a “Deloitte’s Greenhouse Innovation Champion,” helping executives understand and apply new technologies to disrupt their biggest business challenges. His experience also includes providing pro-bono consulting to multiple start-ups and not-for-profit organizations. He has been recognized in academia and industry through: pitch / re-engineering competitions, symposiums, capstone projects with numerous awards, and two full-time undergraduate and graduate university scholarships. His chemical engineering, business & innovation and catalysis research and development experience make him a great bridge to commercialize NanoTess' technology.
He has lived, worked and travelled to more than 42 countries so far, loving what life has to offer. He is fluent in Spanish and English, and proficient in German and French. He has skydived in Switzerland, jumped the second-largest commercial bungee jump in the world, and scuba-dived the two largest barrier reefs.
