Reappraisal of Graded Term Work and Academic Assessments
SSE Reappraisal Policy
The purpose of this policy is to establish a clear and consistent process through which students may request a reappraisal of graded term work or academic assessments (including final examinations). This policy applies to all students within the Schulich School of Engineering.
Grade Reappraisal Request Form
Students who believe they have sufficient academic grounds may request a reappraisal of term work (e.g., assignments, labs, tests, midterms). The student must first discuss the graded work with the course coordinator or instructor within 10 business days of receiving the mark. If the matter is not resolved to the student’s satisfaction, they may submit this form to the department offering the course.
This form does not apply to any grades released after the last day of classes (e.g., final examinations).
Final Examination Reappraisal
Students may request a copy of their final exam from the course instructor or from the Engineering Student Centre (engginfo@ucalgary.ca). While students may choose to review the exam with the course instructor before proceeding, this step is optional.
To initiate a formal reappraisal, students must submit a Service Request through their Student Centre. Select the Service Request Type “My Student Record” and the Subtype “Request Reappraisal of Final Grade” to complete and submit the request.
SSE Faculty Appeals Policy
A student may submit an appeal to the Faculty Appeals Committee after receiving the results of the reappraisal of graded term work from the department or the results of a final exam reappraisal through their Student Centre. Appeals must be submitted to enggappeals@ucalgary.ca no later than the tenth (10th) business day following completion of the reappraisal steps outlined above.
