Giving Day to spotlight the good in Calgary
Make no mistake about it: Calgary is known for its generosity.
From neighbours helping clear the snow off sidewalks to strangers chipping in to help a family in need, that kindness helps make this city a desirable place to live.
The collective power of community is also on full display during the University of Calgary’s annual Giving Day, with this year’s event slated for April 22.
The power of community
Giving Day is an opportunity for those in the community to come together to support the university in a way that is meaningful to them.
Donors can support a specific area or cause, or make a gift to the UCalgary Fund to provide support in five critical areas: scholarships and bursaries, student space improvements, libraries, athletics, and emerging priorities.
Supporters also don’t have to wait to contribute, as all gifts made between now and midnight on April 22 will count towards Giving Day. All gifts up to $2,500 will be matched, dollar for dollar – while matching funds last.
Last year’s event raised $1.3-million for students, researchers, and programs – including COVID-19 research and student relief funds. Since its launch in 2017, Giving Day has attracted more than $4-million.
Your UCalgary
The impacts of Giving Day are far-reaching, as every dollar goes towards making a difference to the campus community.
“The University of Calgary is a leader in innovation, research, sustainability and so much more,” Schulich School of Engineering Dean Bill Rosehart said. “This is a direct result of the support we get from the community through initiatives like Giving Day.”
He says the money raised makes lasting changes, not just on campus, but in the community and beyond.
