In Memoriam: Mario Rodriguez, Schulich School of Engineering

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Rodriguez, a vibrant soul who touched the lives of many. Mario, aged 21, was born in Colombia and found his home in Canada, where he grew up surrounded by love and opportunity. He passed away on March 15, 2024 after battling cancer. Mario is survived by his parents Mario Rodriguez and Maria Pinzon, his siblings Santiago, Angee and Jeiny, loving girlfriend Brooke Kindleman, his dog Nova and many loyal friends and extended family members. 

Mario was a shining example of dedication and passion, particularly in his pursuit of a career in software engineering at the University of Calgary. His determination and work ethic were unmatched, reflecting his commitment to his goals.

Beyond his professional endeavours, Mario was known for his magnetic personality. He effortlessly connected with others, making friends wherever he went. His social nature and infectious smile lit up any room, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

Mario's loyalty knew no bounds. He cherished his relationships with family and friends, always offering support and kindness. His presence brought joy and warmth to those around him, and his absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts.

Though Mario's time with us was far too short, his legacy will live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In honouring Mario's memory, let us carry forward his spirit of perseverance, kindness, and love.
