In a vibrant kickoff to the academic year, the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) extended a warm embrace to 200 eager students during its highly anticipated Welcome Back event.

The gathering set an inviting tone for the upcoming semester, with its central theme focused on the spirit of Friends. The occasion not only showcased UCQ’s dedication to its students but also underscored its commitment to fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie.

The event commenced with an enthusiastic welcome back from the Director of Student Services, Mr. Hassan Kandar, whose words of encouragement set the stage for a memorable day.

Following Mr. Kandar's address, UCQ's President, Professor Hala Sultan Al-Easa, officially welcomed the students and reminded them of the profound significance and potential that awaits them throughout their academic journey. Professor Hala also had the privilege of introducing and extending a warm welcome to the new dean of UCQ, Dr. Janet Rankin, who joined from the main campus in Calgary. Dr. Janet shared an inspirational poem she had written for the students, adding a heartwarming layer to the day.

The event continued with the distribution of certificates to students who had participated in the Best Performance Spotlight Organization (BPSO) program, recognizing their dedication and outstanding contributions. Additionally, select students were presented with gifts in recognition of their active participation in the 2022-23 Student Satisfaction Survey, a survey that yielded exceptional results, reflecting the thriving campus culture, excellent academic program and outstanding student engagement.

The event featured several stations, including lovely henna design, creative face painting, a delightful photo booth to capture cherished memories, and an ice-cream machine offering a sweet treat. And, true to UCQ's tradition, delicious food was provided.
